Comment Hd3a is a ortholog of Arabidopsis Flowering Time (FT) gene (At1g65480). It promotes the transition of flowering downstream of Hd1 (Se1) under short-day (SD) conditions. The Kasalath allele of Hd3a does not affect photoperiod sensitivity by itself, but is involved in the enhancement of the expression of the Nipponbare alleles, Fl1 (Se1, Hd1) and Fl11 (Se8(t), Hd2). The gene bears a 70% protein sequence identity with the Antirrhinum CEN (Centroradialis) gene suggesting a role as a kinase regulator. The expression of Centroradialis (CEN) leads to a morphological switch between shoot growth and the development of flower structures (inflorescence). It belongs to the family of phosphatidylethanolamine-binding proteins (PEBP), as predicted from sequence homology. Mammalian forms of PEBP were found to act as inhibitors of MAP kinase signalling, a central signalling cascade regulating cell differentiation.
Related to flowering, heading date and maturity in rice. The Kasalath allele of Hd3 does not affect photoperiod sensitivity by itself, but is involved in the enhancement of the expression of the Nipponbare alleles, Fl1 (Se1, Hd1) and Fl11 (Se8(t), Hd2). (Imported from Gene GR:0060442)
