Comment | The gene encodes for one of the isoforms of the enzyme 3-deoxy-D-arabino-heptulosonate 7-phosphate synthase (DAHPS). It is one of the key enzymes from the shikimate pathway. The protein is localized in the plastid. It competes with the puruvate kinase found in the plastid. Substrate availability to DAHPS enzyme is promoted by downregulation of the pyruvate kinase.
