Comment | Rice deoxymugineic acid synthase gene, OsDMAS1, is involved in DMA biosynthesis. The enzyme activity was highest at pH 8-9.consistent with the hypothesis that DMA is synthesized in subcellular vesicles. Northern blot showed OsDMAS is up-regulated under iron-deficient conditions in root and shoot. Promoter-GUS in iron-sufficient roots showed its expression restricted to cells participating in long distance transport, and highly up-regulated in the entire root and vascular bundles in shoots tissues.
