Comment | Based on the sequence similarity, the AMT1 belongs to ammonium transporter family of proteins, containing 11 putative transmembrane-spanning domains. Heterologous expression of AMT1 in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutant 31019b showed that the encoded protein exhibits ammonium transport activity. Northern blot analysis showed constitutive expression in shoots and roots. It has two closest rice homologs namely, AMT2 (Q947N0) and OsAMT3 (Q947M9). Another Amt1 (Q947N1) sequence is an allele of this gene. |
