Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description (allele o6) crumpled opaque kernel; green-striped lethal seedling; responds to
proline in culture. Crumpled opaque kernel that germinates poorly to produce a
thick coleoptilar stump with one or two distorted green striped leaves;
endosperm almost entirely floury starch. Anthocyanin reduced on colored A1, C1,
R1 background. Embryo appears normal but seedling is arrested at 2-leaf stage.
Cultured immature embryos produce distorted, green-striped leaf structures on
basal media and near normal green seedlings on basal enriched with proline.
However, mutant apparently is not a proline auxotroph. Genetic 2005 8
