Description (allele o6) crumpled opaque kernel; green-striped lethal seedling; responds to proline in culture. Crumpled opaque kernel that germinates poorly to produce a thick coleoptilar stump with one or two distorted green striped leaves; endosperm almost entirely floury starch. Anthocyanin reduced on colored A1, C1, R1 background. Embryo appears normal but seedling is arrested at 2-leaf stage. Cultured immature embryos produce distorted, green-striped leaf structures on basal media and near normal green seedlings on basal enriched with proline. However, mutant apparently is not a proline auxotroph. Genetic 2005 8 coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: pro1 -33- ms8 -12- j1 -9- emp3; (pro1 -4- rip1); bif1 -14- pro1 -27- lg4; bif1 -27- pro1 -45- v16 -23- emp3; fl3 pro1 TB-8La; fl3 pro1 TB-8Lb; TB-8Lc pro1 gl18; bif1 -20- pro1; pro1 -33- v16; fl3 -2- pro1; pro1 -27- TB-8La; see MaizeGDB ID:935556; 136550; 66180; 935557; 304908; 304909; 304907; 935873; 935874; 935886; 9017404. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
