Rice Genetics Newsletter 14 (1997) 7

A. Report of the Coordinating Committee of the Rice Genetics Cooperative

We are grateful for your continued cooperation in promoting the mandates of Rice Genetics Cooperative during the past 12 years. In this volume of RGN, number of research articles exceeds 50 for the first time.

We are happy to report that contributions of rice geneticists were prominent in the three international conferences held during 1997. These were; Plant and Animal Genome V held at San Diego, USA, in January, the 5th International Congress of Plant Molecular Biology held at Singapore in September and The 8th SABRAO General Congress held at Seoul, Korea, also in September.

Several members of RGC met during the SABRAO Congress. Following matters came up for discussion

  1. Impending retirement of Dr. H. Morishima and search for her successor as co

editor of RGN.

2. Timing and venue of the Fourth International Rice Genetics Symposium.

3. Review of guidelines for nomenclature of QTL proposed in this volume.

4. Designation of protein genes.

5. The use of + symbol to designate wild type allele at the same level, e.g. A+ or bc+.

6. Proposal for a Monograph on "Mutants of Rice" with color plates, figures and

tables showing chromosome location and linkage relations.

It was decided that further discussion on these topics will be undertaken during the 18th International Congress of Genetics to be held during August 10-15 at Beijing, China. Please send your comments and suggestions to any members of RGC.
