D. Report of the Committee on Genetic Stocks

N. Iwata. Convener

We received the seeds of 17 marker stocks maintained in IRRI from Dr. G. S. Khush. Most of the genes involved in the marker stocks were newly registered by the Committee on Gene Synbolization. Nomenclature and Linkage Groups. We will continue to present the list of available marker gene stocks in future issues of RGN. We request kind cooperation of all RGC members. We also request all RGC members to contribute a share of seeds of new genetic stocks, particularly to those reported in RGN. to the Rice Genetic Stock Center (c/o Dr. H. Satoh) at Kyushu University (Faculty of Agriculture. Hakozaki. Fukuoka. 812 Japan) or to Dr. G. S. Khush of the IRRI (P. 0. Box 933. 1099 Manila. Philipines). If received, the information will be presented in this report.

The Plant Breeding Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture in Kyushu University has developed recombinant inbred lines from a cross of a japonica variety Asominori and an indica variety IR24 through single seed descent method (Tsunematsu et al. 1993 in RGN 10). These 71 recombinant inbred lines have already been released tor the use of all researchers. More than 300 RFLP markers have been mapped using these lines in collaboration with Rice Genome Research Program (RGP). Seeds of the recombinant inbred lines are available from Kyushu University (contact Dr. A. Yoshimura. Kyushu University. Address: 6-10-1. Hakozaki. Higashi-ku. Fukuoka 812. Japan, fax:+81-92-641-2928, email:ayoshi@agr.kyushu-u.ac.jp). and detailed information on the map and the markers including segregation data will be soon accessible electronically through RGP.

In the Third Rice Genetics Symposium. Dr. H. Satoh was elected for the new convener of this committee. His address is as follows:
