We present a report from Rice Genetic Stock Center at IRRI: Wild relatives of rice conserved at the International Rice Germplasm Center (by D. A. Vaughan et al.). In Rice Genetic Stock Center at Kyushu University, we did not receive any seed sample and information during last one year.
We will compile and present the list of marker gene stocks and an additional genetic stocks in future issues of RGN. We request kind cooperation of all RGC members concerned.
We also request all RGC members to contribute a share of seeds of new genetic stocks, particularly of those reported in RGN, to Rice Genetic Stock Center, either the convener's laboratory at Kyushu University or at IRRI. If received, we present a list of receipts in this report.

The current inventory of the wild relatives of rice in the International Rice Germplasm Center (IRGC) is presented. This inventory accounts for the total number of accessions conserved in IRGC, excluding 42 accessions known to be duplicates. Incoming samples currently under quarantine inspection and for which seed stocks are, as yet, insufficient for assigning an accession number are also presented (Tables 1 and 2).
The nomenclature follows that used by Chang (1988) and Vaughan (1989). Hybrid populations were identified by the collector, donor or as a result of characteristics observed when the material was grown and recharacterised.
All known Oryza species are now present in the collection conserved in IRGC. There are a number of countries where wild relatives of rice are known to occur, or have occurred, from which no population is conserved in IRGC. These countries include Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago in Latin America, Angola, the Central African Republic, Namibia and Mozambique in Africa and Pakistan in Asia. The overall representation of populations of wild rice in different geographic regions is as follows:
Latin America -3.7% of samples from 14 countries Africa -16.6% of samples from 24 countries Asia -72.8% of samples from 15 countries Australia and Papua New Guinea-6.9% of samplesOf the 11 genera related to Oryza in the subfamily Oryzoideae, only Malte- brunia and Zizania are not represented in the IRGC collection. Zizania is deliberately excluded from the Philippines for quarantine reasons. The species represented from related genera and their origin is presented (Table 3).
