Since 1987, National Agricultural Research Systems with IRRI have been actively collaborating in collecting wild rices. To date, this program has involved 11 countries and details have been described elsewhere (Vaughan, 1990). Trip reports, including comprehensive passport data on material collected during these missions are deposited in and accessible from the IRRI library. In addition to new accession from these collaborative collecting missions, the International Rice Germplasm Center has received recently new samples of wild Oryza germplasm from Australia, Brazil, China, the Cameroons and Mali have been added in the last three years. A summary of these newly accessioned materials is presented (Table 1). A partial set of the collections maintained by the National Institute of Genetics of Japan has also recently been added to provide safe duplication of these stocks (see Sano, 1985).
An inventory of all the seed stocks of Oryza glaberrima and wild Oryza species conserved at the IRRI is currently underway and will be summarized in the next Rice Genetics Newsletter.
