The following genes are newly registered:

GENE SYMBOL REGISTRATION No. 155

Gene symbol: sd1-r, sd1-d
Gene name: reimei dwarf and dee-geo-woo-gen dwarf for sd1-r and sd1-d, respectively
Character expression: Multiple alleles at the sd1 locus; the effect of reducing culm length in sd1-d is greater than that in sd1-r.
Name of original line: sd1-r ; Reimei (a gamma-ray induced mutant from Fujiminori)
sd1-d ; Dee-geo-woo-gen (Taiwanese cultivar)
Gene locus: Chromosome 1
Remark: The mode of inheritance of each of reimei dwarf and dee-geo-woo-gen dwarf has already been clarified (Aquino and Jennings 1966; Futsuhara 1968; Mackill and Rutger 1979). The registrants determined that the dwarfing gene of Reimei is also an allele at the sd1 locus, and reported that sd1-r and sd1-d reduced culm length by 12.1 and 18.4 cm, respectively, under the common genetic background of Fujiminori.

GENE SYMBOL REGISTRATION No. 156

Registrant: Kaoru Zenbayashi* and Shinzo Koizumi** (National Agricultural Research Organization, *Tohoku National Agricultural Research Center, Akita 014-0102 Japan, **National Agricultural Research Center)
Gene symbol: Pi 34
Gene name: Rice blast resistance 34
Character expression: Partial resistance to rice blast in testing nursery under natural condition
Name of original line: Chubu 32 (Japanese paddy rice cultivar)
Gene locus: In the middle part of chromosome 11
Remark: The gene controlling partial resistance to rice blast in Chubu 32 was mapped between RFLP markers E1126 and C1172 of chromosome 11.
