Comment | OsMADS18 is a rice MADS box transcription factor belonging to the AP1/SQUA clade of MADS box genes. The transcripts of OsMADS18 can be detected in roots, leaves, inflorescence, and developing kernels, the in-situ hybridization further showed that OsMAS18 is present at high levels in the leaf, root and flower meristems. Overexpression of OsMADS18 in rice induced early flowering but showed dwarfism due to lower rate of internode elongation and a reduction in the length of the leaf sheath. Overexpression of OsMADS18 in Arabidopsis caused a phenotype closely similar to the ap1 mutant, but it is not caused by down-regulated of AP1 expression. OsMADS18 interacts with the other other MADS box factors like SEP proteins that forms dimers with AP1 in Arabidopsis. (Imported from Gene GR:0080025) |
