Comment Aux/IAA genes encode short-lived transcriptional factors that act to repress the expression of early auxin response genes when auxin concentrations are low. Relative mRNA levels of iaa9 are highest in the callus, and lowest in green shoots and roots. There is a very large(~18-fold)change in the levels of mRNA levels when coleoptile segments of 3-day-old etiolated seedlings are treated with 30 micro mols of 2,4-D in comparison to auxin depleted controls. iaa9 is a sister gene to iaa20, showing similar expression in various testeed tissues.
