Description Abnormal shoot organization includes malformed shoot apical meristem, short
plastochron, aberrant leaves, and random phyllotaxy with increased leaf
production. Leaves are malformed, threadlike, or short and narrow. Shoot apical
meristems are relatively low and wide (flat shaped). Rapid, random leaf
production in sho mutants is correlated with frequent, disorganized cell
division in shoot meristem and with reduced expression domain of rice homeobox
gene, OSH1.
