Description Glumes turn from a light green during flowering to yellow, then golden yellow,
and finally to golden brown during the ripening stage. Internodes yellow. The
gene, gh1 causes pigmentation at epidermal cell walls of glumes and cell walls
of hypodermis of internodes. Ripening gold is common especially in Indica
cultivars. The white-hull gene Wh prevents formation of golden ground pigment
and gives a normal straw color.
