GRAMENE GENEGR:0200581
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Like vp2; w3-8686 pale endosperm, pale green seedling in dim light. Kernel
viviparous; embryo, scutellum and endosperm are white. Aleurone with A1, C1, R1,
etc. is colored, but with reduced pigment intensity. Seedlings white. Pale
yellow kernel appearance in some backgrounds appears to be due to unidentified
flavonoid pigment. (J.D. Smith) Allele w3-8686 is dormant, has white endosperm,
pale green seedling in dim light. Blocked in the carotenoid biosynthetic
pathway. Accumulates photoene, phytofluene, zeta-carotene. w3-y11 allele has
pale yellow endosperm and a green seedling and is homozygous viable. Genetic
