GRAMENE GENEGR:0200021
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Endosperm color may vary from pale cream to lemon yellow depending upon
background. The reduced endosperm pigmentation is associated with a seedling
trait like albescent (al). This association is probably due to pleiotropism
rather than close linkage as the putative rare cross-over types seen can be
explained by either misclassificaiton or heterofertilization. Stable cross-over
types have never been obtained. (G.F. Sprague). Variably cross-banded to white
leaves, pale yellow endosperm, some alleles viviparous; y3 is allelic. Marked
reduction of chlorophyll in emerging new tissue, especially in midvein regions
of the leaf, but enough at times remains around midrib, veins, and leaf sheath
of older leaves to provide for a fairly vigorous plant; often cross-banded and
subject to environmental variation pale yellow endosperm. Some alleles
viviparous, some are pale green instead of white, some have tiny sectors of
normal green tissue on mutant background. y3 is allelic (Stinard 1995). Genetic
2005 2 coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: al1 T2-
3(6270); al1 -7- lg1 -19- gl2; see MaizeGDB ID:104535; 935243. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
