ID 2595
Name sn1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (2)
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200496
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Anthocyanin in coleoptile, nodes, auricle, leaf blade, etc. (compare Lc1).
Dominant Sn1 confers tissue-specific anthocyanin pigmentation to the scutellar
node, mesocotyl, leaf base, and midrib and to the seed integuments following
exposure to light. Pl1 substitutes for light in eliciting silk, glume, and
pericarp pigmentation, resulting in intense blue-black to oxblood colors. Allele
(Sn1-bo13) confers higher, partially light-independent mesocotyl pigmentation.
Sn1 has no molecular similarity to R1. (G. Gavazzi) Compare with Lc1, homology
with which remains to be resolved. Genetic 2005 10 coordinates determined from
these recombination and map data: g1 -20- r1 -1.6- sn1 -1.6- mst1; see MaizeGDB
ID:9017342. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map
position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
