ID 2574
Name les3 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) lesion3
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200296
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Like les1; large, elliptical, necrotic lesions. Dominant Les3 has large (1.0 to
1.5 cm in diameter), elliptical, necrotic lesions which vary from straw-colored
to a brown center surrounded by concentric rings of dead, dying, and watery
tissue. Appears first on blade of lower leaves near the midrib, then appears
successively on leaf blades of younger leaves until maturity when all have many
spots. Only a few (often elongated) lesions appear on heterozygotes (Les3/+),
but many appear on homozygote where leaves are wrinkled due to distortion caused
by lesion formation. First expressed at about 6 weeks after planting. Expression
is poor for heterozygote and excellent for homozygote. Genetic 2005 10
coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: (les3 -12- T9-
10b); see MaizeGDB ID:9017314. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB
Database and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
