Name ms2 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) male sterile2
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200349
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Like ms1; affected between vacuolation and pore formation. Anthers fail to
exsert, microspores degenerate. Meiosis I and II appear normal, although
occasional micronuclei have been observed. After quartet release, microspore
vacuolation occurs without concomitant wall and pore development. No remnants of
the thin-walled, vacuolated microspores remain after microspore degeneration.
