ID 1976
Name va1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) variable sterile1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200565
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Variable male and female fertility; cytokinesis fails in anaphase I. Mutant
plant characterized by failure of cytoplasmic division and irregular
distribution of chromosomes during meiosis. Cytokinesis fails in anaphase I and
is followed by a second unsuccessful cytokinesis resulting in 4 haploid nuclei
from one meiosis sharing a common cytoplasm. Classification by pollen sterility
often difficult. Genetic 2005 7 coordinates determined from these recombination
and map data: v5 -18- gl1 -14- va1; see MaizeGDB ID:935476. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
