ID 1967
Name rcm1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) rectifier1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200445
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Rcm1 restores miniature seed of teosinte cytoplasm to normal. Dominant
Rcm1 offsets the miniaturizing effect on kernel and plant size resulting from
combining the cytoplasm from Section Luxuriantes teosintes with certain maize
nuclear genomes. Rcm1 is present in many maize inbreds as well as in most
Luxuriantes teosintes. Some sources of teosinte and maize carry duplicate
factors. Classification is very good on an individual kernel basis and excellent
on a plant basis. (J. Kermicle) Viability of recessive plants is good but plants
are poorly competitive with normal. Genetic 2005 7 coordinates determined from
these recombination and map data: (rcm1 -3- vp9); see MaizeGDB ID:935856. This
gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
