ID 1405
Name dap1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) dappled aleurone1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200110
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Dap1 kernels show patches of normal and abnormal aleurone cells;
effect with colored aleurone is conspicuous. Dominant Dap1, aleurone mosaic of
colored, normal aleurone cells and colorless, abnormal (multilayered,
elongated, or absent) aleurone cells in an A1, C1, R1 background. Mutant
kernels are sometimes reduced in size. The mutation is expressed when plants
carrying Dap1 are crossed as females, but not as males. Dap1 shows reduced
transmission through both the male and female, and is most likely homozygous
lethal in the zygote or embryo. Classification varies from good to poor for the
kernel. Viability is normal for the heterozygote and embryo lethal for the
homozygote. (P. Stinard). Genetic 2005 5 coordinates determined from these
recombination and map data: (dap1 -4- T5-9a(5L.69)) ; see MaizeGDB ID:165116.
This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
