ID 1167
Name sos1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) Suppressor of sessile spikelets1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0201152
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Sos1 suppresses sessile spikelets in ear primordia and in tassel;
reduced tassel branching - contrasts to teosinte ears, where the pedicellate
rather than the sessile spikelet is lacking (compare pd1 pd2, unpaired rows due
to failure of pedicillate spikelets). Lapsing of pd1 (which see) proposed by
Doebley et al. (1995) due to lack of stocks and documentation, but morphology
and dominance relationships differ (see Szabo & Burr, 1996). Genetic 2005 4
coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: php20725a -3- sos1
-4- bnl5.46a; php20725a -4- sos1 -10- bnl5.46a; sos1 -21- la1 -8- su1; see
MaizeGDB ID:106290; 106291; 113736. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB
Database and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
