Description Like ts1, but tassel branches variably pistillate and staminate; sequence
homologous to short chain alcohol dehydrogenases; SSR phi001. Tassel almost
completely pistillate except for occasional staminate or perfect florets near
branch tips; many kernels in tassel; not compact like ts4; branches pendant
rather than whole tassel; ear which develops when tassel is removed has a
crowded irregular kernel arrangement due to abnormal development of both upper
and lower florets. (B. Veit). Immature tassel inflorescences. 2 exons, polyA
site. Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and map
data: asg26 -0.2- ts2 -3- umc13; see MaizeGDB ID:934700. This gene was
