ID 76
Name ms17 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) male sterile17
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200348
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Like ms1; affected variably in meiosis. Abnormalities occur at any stage after
prophase I, including abnormalities in cytokinesis and microspore development.
Starch deposition was not observed in microspores from older anthers, even
though some pollen shed has been reported (Emerson et al. 1935 Cornell AES Mem
180)(M. Albertsen). Unusual cortical microtubule array first appears in late
prophase and often persists throughout meiosis; prometaphase and metaphase I are
multipolar. Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and
map data: sr1 -18- ms17 -2- p1; ms17 -3- p1; see MaizeGDB ID:60043; 60171. This
gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
