ID 555
Name ns1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) narrow sheath1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200914
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Plant brachytic, duplicate factor with ns2; leaf sheath and blade taper, blade
widens toward tip; husks narrowed, ears exposed. Tapering extends from the
sheath, through the ligule, into the leaf blade, reducing to as little as the
midrib, then widening. Ears that formed were exposed on the two lateral sides of
the ear. Mutant plants are 30-60% shorter than normal, having very short
internodes. Not allelic to br2, lg1, or lg2. Map location originally reported on
3 corrected per Scanlon et al. 2000. Genetic 2005 2 coordinates determined from
these recombination and map data: csu270 -6- ns1 -7- umc5a; see MaizeGDB
ID:887697. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map
position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
