ID 544
Name wrp1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) wrinkled plant1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200594
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Wrp1 plants dwarf, leaves and culm longitudinally corrugated; dosage
effect. Dominant Wrp1, dwarf mutant with wrinkled leaves and culm. Leaves have a
corrugated appearance; more extreme in homozygotes than heterozygotes.
Characteristically, Wrp1/Wrp1 plants are 12-18 inches tall, and tassel and/or
ear shoot development frequently fails. Wrp1/+ plants are 2 to 3 feel tall and
usually both male and female fertile. Pollen of both genotypes is functional and
seed from selfed plants appears normal with good germination. Mutant was found
by A.J. Bockholt as a single, heterozygous plant in an unidentified composite
population from Mexico. (J.D. Smith). Genetic 2005 2 coordinates determined from
these recombination and map data: T2-9b -18- wrp1; wrp1 -19- T2-9d; see MaizeGDB
ID:146849; 146850. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the
map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
