Name mn1 (GENE SYMBOL)

GRAMENE GENEGR:0200338
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Small, somewhat defective kernel, fully viable; invertase reduced. Weight is 1/5
of normal. Earliest anatomical lesion is withdrawal of pedicel/placento-chalazal
region from developing endosperm, loss of nutrients to developing seed and early
cessation of growth. Abnormal development of maternal cells in the pedicel is
determined by the genotype of the endosperm. Developing kernels of the mutant
genotype show near complete loss (>99%) of invertase activity in both pedicel
region and the endosperm (Miller and Chourey 1991 MNL65:62). (P.S. Chourey).
This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
