GRAMENE GENEGR:0200297
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Les4 plants have late expression of large necrotic lesions on leaf
blade and sheath. Dominant Les4 has necrotic lesions appearing at 40-57 days
(near flowering) on leaf blade and sheath. Two types appear: 1) small, round,
white lesions; and 2) medium, irregularly shaped, brown lesions. Both appear in
clusters interspersed with randomly scattered smaller white lesions. Extreme
expression on leaf sheath in M14/W23 genotype. Rapid proliferation and
coalescing of lesions leads to early plant senescence. Good pollen but no ear
produced on most backgrounds except Mo20W/W23 which has reduced expression and
good vigor. Viability, normal to flowering. In homozygote, lesion onset is
earlier and more extreme. Genetic 2005 2 coordinates determined from these
recombination and map data: T2-9b wx -48- les4; (les4 -12- T2-9d wx1); see
MaizeGDB ID:66247; 66248. This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database
and the map position was displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
