GRAMENE GENEGR:0200044
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant B1 plants have anthocyanin in major plant tissues; some alleles affect
aleurone and embryo color; regulates flavonoid enzymes; SSR umc1776. Dominant B1
determines anthocyanin in major plant tissues; some alleles affect aleurone and
embryo color. Provides distribution of anthocyanin pigments (purple with Pl1,
sun-red with pl1, brown with a1, a2, bz1, bz2, or c2) to most above-ground plant
parts. Intermediate alleles give pigments only at base of glumes (glume bar) and
little pigment elsewhere. Dominant allele (B1) subject to paramutagenic effect
(Coe 1966 Genetics 53:1035). Dominant allele (B1-Peru) is duplicate of R1
(Chandler et al. 1989 Plant Cell 1:1175), produces anthocyanin in aleurone with
dilution dosage effect rather than the mottling effect shown by the reference R1
allele. Encodes a nuclear transcriptional activator (myc) protein. Single
cistron, unlike r1. npi# (b1); the allele B1-intense contains a Tourist element.
Genetic 2005 2 coordinates determined from these recombination and map data:
umc61 -1- b1 -2.5- ivr1; see MaizeGDB ID:934701. This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
