Description Root penetration index is a measure of root penetration ability, which was
calculated as the ratio of penetrated root number (PNRTNB) to total root number
(TRTNB) per plant. Assay was repeated three times with three, five and five
replications, respectively. The root-penetration screening system used the wax-
petrolatum layer system to simulate soil compactions. The assays were carried out
on plants 50 days after sowing (DAS).
