GRAMENE GENEGR:0200111
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Germless; colorless (mosaic) aleurone; floury white endosperm; anthocyanins and
carotenoids absent; cultured embryos not obtained (aka clf1, gay1). Small,
white, floury kernel which fails to germinate. Aleurone layer absent (Dolphini
1987; Cone et al. 1989) hence lack of anthocyanin in colored aleurone stocks;
floury endosperm lacks carotenoids, embryo appears as a small round ball with
root primordia only. Cultured embryos produce roots but no shoots. Mutant
chimeral leaf tissue is white and morphologically aberrant, mutant sectors are
indented on top and protrude from undersurface of leaf (Neuffer M.G.
unpublished). Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and
map data: zb4 -7- p1 -1- dek1; see MaizeGDB ID:58464. This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
