ID 40
Name cfr1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) coupling factor reduction1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200085
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Chloroplast ATP synthase affected; seedlings pale green and greatly reduced in
vigor. Seedlings have slightly pale green leaves (first 3 leaves) with altered
chlorophyll fluorescence induction kinetics (see hcf mutants), but are not high
chlorophyll fluorescence hcf. Subsequent leaves are distinctly pale green,
narrow, and droopy. CF0 and CF1 components of the chloroplast coupling factor
are severely diminished, based on SDS-PAGE and rocket immunoelectrophoresis.
Thylakoids maintain nearly 80% of the normal proton gradient (Echt et al. 1987
Molec. Gen. Genet. 208:230). Induction apparently spontaneous. Classification
is good by reduced leaf pigmentation. Seedlings are lethal at 4-leaf stage; in
the greenhouse, infrequent survivors with poor vigor occur. (M. Polacco).
Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and map data:
T1-2c - cfr1 - TB-1Sb; see MaizeGDB ID:107792; 107791. This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
