ID 37
Name bz2 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (4)
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200074
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Like bz1; anthers not fluorescent; an1-6923 mutation includes deletion for Bz2;
encodes a glutathione S-transferase conjugating anthocyanins into the vacuole.
Like bz1 but anthers not fluorescent; brownish or dilute purple aleurone;
reddish brown plant not usually necrotic (with B1, Pl1). With appropriate
complementary factors, mutant is expressed in all tissues competent to form
anthocyanins. Reference allele resulted from insertion of a Ds element into a
functional Bz2 locus. Radiation-induced mutant, an1-6923, also includes loss of
Bz2 function as well as An1. Sequence contains one copy of ATTTA sequence, in
common with parA and parC (auxin-regulated in tobacco mesophyll protoplasts) and
other genes with short-lived responses to external stimuli, including mRNAs of
genes that respond to mammalian growth factors (Takahashi et al., 1994).
Homology to parA 31%. bnl#(bz2)(pP300), umc181(bz2)(pP300). Cold causes 10-fold
increase in transcript accumulation level (Christie 1994). This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
