Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Anaphase I impaired (aka ms29). Mutation found following seed treatment by N-nitroso-N-
methylurea. Mutant ms43 plants exhibit irregular disjunction of homologous
chromosomes, much like the dv mutation. As with the dv mutant, meiosis is normal
until anaphase I when orderly disjunction seems disrupted. The spindle apparatus
is further disrupted in ms43 plants during meiosis II, resulting in abnormal
microspores (Golubovskaya 1979 Int. Rev. Cytol. 58:247; Golubovskaya 1979
MNL53:66)(M. Albertsen). Phragmoplast formation usually fails, meiotic
chromosomes do not decondense. Genetic 2005 8 coordinates determined from these
recombination and map data: TB-8La ms43; see MaizeGDB ID:308828. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
