GRAMENE GENEGR:0200205
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Chloroplastic, A subunit; cDNA subclone GAPA1S (aka umc188) probes one site on 8
(correction from previous maps); two pseudogenes have been identified, and leaf
cDNA csu140 hybridizes to 2 other bands. Encodes "A" subunit of chloroplastic
enzyme (GAPA; E.C. 1.2.1.13). Active as a tetramer. Involved in Calvin cycle
reactions. Molecular clone and sequence (Brinkmann et al. 1987 J. Mol. Evol.
26:320; Quigley et al. 1988 PNAS 85:2672). Light inducible in leaves (Quigley et
al. 1989 J. Mol. Evol. 29:412; Russell and Sachs 1989 Plant Cell 1:793). (M.
Sachs). pGAPA1S (aka p-umc188), 0.4kb subclone of cDNA pZm57, probes a single
site; probe p-csuh140 hybridizes to 3 bands, one at this site is +/- in Tx303 x
CO159. Prior map location on 10 should be ignored. Promoter activity requires
sequences within intron 1 (Donath 1995). Plastid transit peptide. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
