Description Endosperm opaque, soft; dosage effect. Kernels that are fl3/fl3/fl3 or fl3/fl3/+
have an opaque endosperm with soft starch. There is reduced production of the
prolamine fraction, and the collective proteins have an enhanced lysine content
when compared to nonmutant counterparts. The mutant does not lend itself to
practical applications since fl3 seeds are very light and in certain genetic
backgrounds do not germinate. Viability is fair in some backgrounds but in
others the seeds do not germinate. (O. Nelson). Genetic 2005 8 coordinates
