ID 1793
Name scmv1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (3)
GRAMENE GENEGR:0204636
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Resistance requires dominant factors Scm1 and Scm2; resistance in various
inbreds is concordant for SCMV and MDMV, yet recombinants of Scm1 occur with the
NOR, whereas none were found for Mdm1 by Simcox et al. (1995). Mode of gene
action depends on scoring date but is mainly partially dominant, with
incompletely penetrant resistance in Scmv1 scmv1, Scmv2 scmv2. Scmv2
effectiveness increases in time and depends on the presence of at least one
Scmv1 allele (digenic epistatic interactions). Scmv1 explains a higher
proportion of the phenotypic variance than Scmv2. (summary of work of Xia et
al., 1999, provided by T. Luebberstedt 11 May 2000). This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
