Description Amino acid sequence, deduced from cDNA to inflorescence mRNA, 61% identical to
Arabidopsis floral homeotic gene protein AG1; expression strong in female
inflorescence; possibly pt1; SSR umc1187. ZAG1 protein from in vitro
translation binds to a zag1 site recognized by the AG1 protein. Maps near pt1
(Schmidt et al 1993); possibly this gene. mRNA accumulates early in stamen and
carpel primordia and in developing endosperm; later in development limited to
stamens and pistils. More strongly in female inflorescence. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
