Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description (was py1) leaves short, pointed, fine white streaks; displays abnormally
oriented cell divisions and altered growth and development throughout the plant.
Locus renamed at suggestion of LG Smith, to reflect more detailed morphological
information. Altered patterns of cell growth, division and differentiation
throughout the plant. Irregular cell shapes are observed throughout the plant,
in all tissue layers of leaf, stem, and root. Patterns of vascular and stomatal
differentiation in the leaf are also affected, probably as a consequence of the
altered cell division pattern; that is, veins and stomatal rows cannot follow
straight paths because cells are not arranged in orderly cell files. (LG Smith).
Plants smaller than normal and rarely have tillers. Genetic 2005 6 coordinates
determined from these recombination and map data: y1 -29- pl1 -14- tan1; pl1 -9-
sm1 -14- tan1; (w1 -0- tan1); pl1 -6- su2 -17- tan1; TB-6Lb w1 w14 tan1; see
MaizeGDB ID:935474; 935832; 935831; 935834; 301244. This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
