GRAMENE GENEGR:0200418
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Pl1 plant tissues have light-independent pigment, pl1 blue light-dependent;
Pl1-Bh1, colored patches in c1 aleurone and in plant; transcriptional
activator for flavonoid genes; SSR phi031, nc009, nc010. umc1014. Dominant
Pl1, sunlight-independent purple pigment vs. sun dependent (see B1) red
anthocyanin pigments distributed in plant tissues, according to other genes
such as B1 and R1. Best seen as purple vs. pink anthers with plant color R-r
or r-r alleles and purple vs. sun-red leaf sheath with B1. Allelic to Bh1,
which has irregularly colored patches in the aleurone and plant, including
husk, culm, tassel glume, cob glume, leaf blade, auricle, and anther.
Pigmentation of this allele, which appears sectored, actually has cell to cell
variation and is not strictly clonal. (K. Cone). bnl#(pl1) (pH3-Sa10.6).
Member of myb class of oncoproteins; simple sequence repeat (microsatellite).
This gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
