GRAMENE GENEGR:0200342
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Anthers shriveled, not usually exserted; affected at microspore vacuolation.
Anthers shriveled; homozygous ms1 plants may exsert a few anthers, but no pollen
is shed. Affected at microspore vacuolation. Meiosis I and II appear normal.
Some chromosome condensation is observed in microspores, which are released from
quartets with no intervening microspore vacuolation stages. A unique feature of
microspore development after quartet release is occurrence of abnormally
thickened microspore walls. Cytoplasmic and nuclear degeneration is evident
after chromosome condensation and abnormal thickening of microspore wall. Only
collapsed, thickened microspore walls remain in older anthers. (M.Albertsen).
