ID 1718
Name mdm1 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (1) maize dwarf mosaic virus resistance1
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200330
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Dominant Mdm1 plants resistant. Mdm1 major gene, dominant for resistance to
maize dwarf mosaic virus (MDMV) strain A in the inbred Pa405. Apparently also
involved in resistance to strains B, D, E, F (Louie et al. 1991 Crop Sci 31:14).
The level of resistance by Mdm1 can be greatly modified by genotypic,
environmental and developmental factors (M. McMullen and R. Louie, unpublished
data). An allele for partial resistance results in a limitation of symptoms to
streaks of mosaic tissue on upper leaves. (M. McMullen). Genetic 2005 6
coordinates determined from these recombination and map data: "npi340a
[~agrp144] -1.6-(umc85,po1)-.5-(mdm1,nor)-.5-bnl6.29a [~csu809]; umc85a-1.9-po1-.03-csu70-.2-(mdm1,nor)-.7-
bnl6.29a [~csu809]; see MaizeGDB ID:106298; 106296.". This gene was originally
curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on the maize
bins map if feasible.
