Description Shoot meristem and developing stem specific, very similar in sequence and
expression pattern to rs1, kn1, knox4 and knox8. Missing in deletion Def(Kn1)O;
Mar 1996 , based on information in Kerstetter et al 1994 merged knox3 with
records for probed sites: pge5a(knox3) and pge(C2) input from Burr 1995 and
1993 maps, respectively. mRNA not detected in root meristems, in young leaf
primordia or older leaves; like rs1, accumulates within a ring of cells at base
of the disc of leaf insertion; expressed uniformly in floral meristems; like
rs1, but unlike kn1,expressed in ground tissue of inflorescence stem, but not
in vascular strands; expression not altered by Kn1 mutants. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
