Name hcf38 (GENE SYMBOL)
Synonyms (3)
GRAMENE GENEGR:0200240
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Not allelic to hcf2 (Leto and Miles 1979) or to hcf6 (Miles D. personal
communication). Yellow-green leaves with fluorescence kinetics induction class
VI (Miles 1980). TB-5La uncovers (Miles et al. 1985). Photosystem II activity
reduced 80%, photosystem I activity nearly normal, ATP synthesis reduced 80%,
C02-fixation reduced 95%, no cytochrome f (Leto and Miles 1977; Miles 1982;
Miles and Metz 1985). Severe reduction in RUBISCO, coupling factor (CF1),
photosystem I (CP1), and certain other thylakoid polypeptides (Barkan et al.
1986; Kobayashi and Miles 1987) and with differential effects on various
plastid transcript levels and patterns. Deficiency in mRNA encoding at least
one mRNA per complex, for complexes cytbf (petA), photosystem II (psbB),
photosystem I (Barkan et al. 1986). Classification: excellent as hcf and yellow-
green leaf. Viability: seedling lethal at 3-leaf stage. (Polacco). Not allelic
to hcf2 or hcf6. Affects cytochrome bf complex, alpha and beta components of
CF1; green seedling. Genetic 2005 5 coordinates determined from these
recombination and map data: TB-5La(5) hcf38; see MaizeGDB ID:104688. This gene
was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed
on the maize bins map if feasible.
