Description Like rth1, but "stocking cap" roothair initials under electron microscope.
Roothairs are very similar to rth1 mutants under the light microscope, but
distinguished under the scanning electron microscope. Plants of rth3/rth3
produce aberrant roothair initials shaped like "stocking caps." Field-grown
homozygotes are near normal in appearance. (P. Schnable). Uncovered by TB-1Sb-
2Lc. Genetic 2005 1 coordinates determined from these recombination and map
data: T1-2(4464) rth3 TB1-Sb 1994; see MaizeGDB ID:104525; 104790. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
