Description Roothairs do not elongate in rth1 homozygotes; plants are dwarfed and appear
nutrient deficient; genomic sequence. Roothairs do not elongate fully in rth1
homozygotes. Mutants are most easily distinguished from wild type when seeds
are germinated on germination paper. Field-grown homozygotes are stunted and
seldom produce ears or shedding tassels. Growth under hydroponics improves the
vigor of plants, but does not normalize them. (P. Schnable). cDNA similar to
yeast sec3 (Wen 1997 unpublished). Uncovered by TB-1La. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
