GRAMENE GENEGR:0200877
Type Gene
Species Zea mays subsp. mays (Maize) [ GR_tax:014546 ]
Germplasm
Description Recessive few-branched tassel, normally no pollen shed; variable expression on
ear with 0-2 spikelets produced at each floral node. Variable expression on an
ear resulting in 2, 1, or no spikelets being produced at each floral node. If no
spikelets are produced, the cob is smooth or slightly ridged and hairy where the
cupule should have been. The ear spikelets are late to develop; silks often fail
to emerge from the husk. Fertilized silks typically produce viable seed. The
tassel is thin and has few branches. Tassel spikelets are generally unpaired,
large, and borne on 1-cm long pedicels. Pollen is not normally shed. (S.
Briggs). Originally reported on 3L (Neuffer and Briggs 1994) by a B-A hypoploid
test, and allelic to bif*-47330 (Briggs and Johal 1992); mapping by McSteen et
al.(1999) with B-A and wx translocations, and with RFLPs, maps to bin 1.06. This
gene was originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was
displayed on the maize bins map if feasible.
