Description Maize TATA-binding protein component of TFIID transcription initiation factor.
Two separate genes encode nearly identical amino acid sequences; both function
in yeast (Vogel 1993). cDNA clones; protein encoded binds to TATA box isolated
by homology to TFIID cDNA AT1 from Arabidopsis thaliana. Full length (1300 bp)
cDNA identified at 13/1 corresponds to TFIID-1; TFIID-2 possibly a separate gene
corresponding to two overlapping partial cDNAs designated as 7/2 (732 bp) and
3/1 (850 bp). TFIID-1 and TFIID-2 have 76% sequence identity at the cDNA level
over the whole length and 96% homology within the coding region, with only 60%
homology in the 5' and 3' regions. The amino-acid sequences show 98% identity.
TFIID-1 and TFIID-2 have one ORF corresponding to 200 amino-acids which codes
for a protein of 22,300 molecular mass. TFIID-1 and TFIID-2 have 3 amino-acid
difference. The N-terminal 20 amino-acids differ from other know TFIIDs while
the remaining 180 amino-acids show high homology. Both 13/1 and partial 3/1
identify two bands on a Southern blot, however, no designation of the line used
for DNA analysis is listed and no Southern information with 7/3 as a probe is
given. Thus, these two sequences are not listed as separate sites pending
further information. GenBank accession L13301 is same as Z22149 (Vogel confirmed
1995). Confirmed by Vogel 1993 to be two loci, tbp1 and tbp2. This gene was
originally curated in MaizeGDB Database and the map position was displayed on
the maize bins map if feasible.
